Hannah W. Wong is an independent scholar specializing in twentieth-century European and American art. She received her PhD in art history from the University of Texas at Austin in 2017, and her work examines the role of play in art and visual culture. Hannah is also the founder/CEO of the Austin-based startup, Vox Omnibus Consulting, which develops process-oriented professional trainings based on principles drawn from the arts and humanities. With over a decade of teaching experience in higher education and a diverse background in museum work, she has been a frequent lecturer at the Blanton Museum of Art. There she created and taught art history courses for museum members. For the past few years, she’s independently offered lively art history courses online, including an Art History 101 survey, Meeting Modern Art, Landscapes of Life, and several “special topic” courses.
In 2015, she authored an article for the American Art Journal and has contributed to the Washington Print Club Quarterly and to exhibition catalogues published by the MIT Press and the John F. Kennedy Center. Support for her research includes predoctoral fellowships from the Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery and the Blanton Museum of Art/Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and a travel grant from the National Gallery of Art's Center for Advanced Study in the Visual Arts. She has presented her work at the Smithsonian Institution, the Contemporary Austin, the College Art Association Annual Conference, and the National Gallery of Art.
In addition to her research and teaching in higher education, Hannah has a diverse background in museum and gallery organizations. As a curator, her exhibitions include Every Day at the Union Gallery (University of Maryland) and Amuse-Bouche at the Creative Research Laboratory (University of Texas).
